00:00:00.000 –> 00:00:06.000
Alright folks, put the download button on our survivalist podcast.

00:00:06.000 –> 00:00:15.000
So folks, I do apologize. There’s been no show since Thanksgiving week, I believe, or the week after Thanksgiving.

00:00:15.000 –> 00:00:17.000
I do apologize for that.

00:00:17.000 –> 00:00:26.000
I have just been, we have just been crazy busy with the holidays and I’ve been under the weather.

00:00:26.000 –> 00:00:34.000
I had like a bronchitis or something and I just could not, I had like no voice. I didn’t feel bad, I really didn’t.

00:00:34.000 –> 00:00:39.000
I felt fine, but I just could not, I just could not speak. It was unbelievable.

00:00:39.000 –> 00:00:43.000
I’m sure my wife probably enjoyed that.

00:00:43.000 –> 00:00:50.000
But, you know, it’s one of those things that, let me tell you, I was taking that, I wrote an article up on the site, survivalinfo.org

00:00:50.000 –> 00:00:58.000
about how I take, I think, vitamin C every day and the ritual I’m on for these, for vitamins.

00:00:58.000 –> 00:01:02.000
And I’ve got to tell you, generally I do get over things.

00:01:02.000 –> 00:01:06.000
Every time I start taking vitamin C, I do see myself getting over stuff a lot faster.

00:01:06.000 –> 00:01:09.000
But, you know, just the bronchitis, I could not get over that.

00:01:09.000 –> 00:01:12.000
And then we were busy with the holidays.

00:01:12.000 –> 00:01:19.000
And then I was going to record a couple days and I just, the weather was unbelievably bad.

00:01:19.000 –> 00:01:22.000
And I was traveling those days, so I couldn’t do it. I was traveling, it’s just unbelievable.

00:01:22.000 –> 00:01:27.000
I said to my wife, my gosh, you know, the holiday weeks, coming up into the holidays and all that,

00:01:27.000 –> 00:01:32.000
it’s just, it’s unbelievable how crazy it is. I think Christmas should be every other year.

00:01:32.000 –> 00:01:40.000
I mean, it’s unbelievable how just crazy busy you get around the holidays. It’s just, it’s unbelievable.

00:01:40.000 –> 00:01:43.000
So folks, you know, we had that.

00:01:43.000 –> 00:01:48.000
All those two folks like to say, if you want to support the show, you can go to survivalinfo.org.

00:01:48.000 –> 00:01:50.000
And if you see there’s an Amazon link there, click on that.

00:01:50.000 –> 00:01:55.000
And if you click on that and then do your shopping, that will help support the show, help keep the show free.

00:01:55.000 –> 00:01:59.000
The show always will be free, but help support the show, help support the work we do.

00:01:59.000 –> 00:02:04.000
I do see quite a few people bought things after clicking on that link, so we do appreciate that.

00:02:04.000 –> 00:02:08.000
All that money goes into hosting and the site and all that.

00:02:08.000 –> 00:02:11.000
Like I said, I’m not taking any paycheck or anything like that from this, trust me.

00:02:11.000 –> 00:02:17.000
But, I would like to point out too, folks, if you go to techgeekdeals.com,

00:02:17.000 –> 00:02:20.000
that’s another host, another site that I host.

00:02:20.000 –> 00:02:25.000
It’s all different tech Amazon deals that I’ve actually, I’ve actually tried all that stuff on there, believe it or not.

00:02:25.000 –> 00:02:29.000
And all that. So if you go to techgeekdeals.com, that helps support the show as well.

00:02:29.000 –> 00:02:33.000
And like I said, I do appreciate all that stuff you guys do, because it does help support the show.

00:02:33.000 –> 00:02:38.000
And does help, you know, me pay for the hosting and all that, so I can really continue to do this.

00:02:38.000 –> 00:02:40.000
So I appreciate that.

00:02:40.000 –> 00:02:44.000
Also too, folks, I’d like to say thank you very much for going through the,

00:02:44.000 –> 00:02:47.000
looking at our subscriber numbers and our listener numbers.

00:02:47.000 –> 00:02:52.000
Everything’s up compared to what it was, you know, a couple weeks ago and all that.

00:02:52.000 –> 00:02:57.000
So I do appreciate everybody. The show just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I really do appreciate that.

00:02:57.000 –> 00:02:59.000
I do enjoy doing the show.

00:02:59.000 –> 00:03:05.000
Like I said, you know, honestly, I’m not making any money on this, but I do enjoy doing it, so I appreciate that.

00:03:05.000 –> 00:03:10.000
So, OP the Wonder Dog and I are coming back.

00:03:10.000 –> 00:03:14.000
We actually went out, I’ll tell you, this is a rare day off for me.

00:03:14.000 –> 00:03:20.000
You know, I’m usually traveling for my business or, you know, doing something on the homestead.

00:03:20.000 –> 00:03:24.000
But rare day off for OP and I. I got to take him out on his first.

00:03:24.000 –> 00:03:26.000
We actually have Cottontails going on right now.

00:03:26.000 –> 00:03:30.000
And I actually got to go out with him a little bit.

00:03:30.000 –> 00:03:33.000
He’s definitely got a lot to learn.

00:03:33.000 –> 00:03:36.000
I was putting him on the rabbit tracks myself.

00:03:36.000 –> 00:03:39.000
I have a rabbit’s foot I’ve been having him play with the last week or two.

00:03:39.000 –> 00:03:41.000
I try to gear him up.

00:03:41.000 –> 00:03:48.000
We actually, we didn’t really get anything, but I didn’t really see much rabbit tracks to begin with.

00:03:48.000 –> 00:03:57.000
Usually I do go hunting around this place, and I usually do see quite a few rabbits.

00:03:57.000 –> 00:04:05.000
And I really didn’t see any. I did see some around deer season, but I did not see much today when OP and I were out.

00:04:05.000 –> 00:04:09.000
We went out for a couple hours and I had to put him on the rabbit tracks a few times.

00:04:09.000 –> 00:04:12.000
Once I put him on the tracks he started really getting it.

00:04:12.000 –> 00:04:18.000
So, you know, I had him built too. I also had him on a leash.

00:04:18.000 –> 00:04:21.000
You know, a 20 or 30 foot leash.

00:04:21.000 –> 00:04:25.000
You know, I didn’t have him loose yet. He’s not ready for that yet.

00:04:25.000 –> 00:04:26.000
He’s still a little too young for that.

00:04:26.000 –> 00:04:30.000
I do have the GPS collar that goes up to five or 800 feet.

00:04:30.000 –> 00:04:35.000
It’s a track of them. I still have that. But, you know, I have all that stuff.

00:04:35.000 –> 00:04:37.000
So I have all of it ready for him.

00:04:37.000 –> 00:04:41.000
But right now it’s just, right now I’ve got him on the leash right now.

00:04:41.000 –> 00:04:45.000
He’s just not ready. I know a lot of people when they go rabbit hunting, they just let the dog go and just follow him around.

00:04:45.000 –> 00:04:48.000
You know, the dog kind of does the work.

00:04:48.000 –> 00:04:50.000
He’s still a little young, you know, I’m still training him.

00:04:50.000 –> 00:04:52.000
But we’re getting there. We’re getting there.

00:04:52.000 –> 00:04:57.000
So, and we went out, like I said, you know, you put him on the track.

00:04:57.000 –> 00:05:04.000
The way I find it the best to teach a hunting dog for rabbits is you actually have the hunter have to put him on the tracks.

00:05:04.000 –> 00:05:07.000
And then once he kind of gets the knack of it, after all, he’ll start finding the tracks himself.

00:05:07.000 –> 00:05:11.000
The main thing is, like I said, buy a rabbit’s foot and give him a rabbit’s foot to play with.

00:05:11.000 –> 00:05:14.000
And, you know, that kind of gets them started.

00:05:14.000 –> 00:05:22.000
You know, when I’ve trained dogs to do bird hunting, I usually will get a couple of fake birds from, you know, Field and Stream or online or whatever.

00:05:22.000 –> 00:05:28.000
And, you know, throw them and have him retrieve and throw a little further, throw a little further.

00:05:28.000 –> 00:05:35.000
You know, start really getting the dog used to retrieving and mouthing and all that and grabbing them and all that.

00:05:35.000 –> 00:05:38.000
It’s a lot of patience, folks.

00:05:38.000 –> 00:05:44.000
Those of you that think training a hunting dog is going to be a one, two, three thing, trust me when I tell you it’s a ton of work.

00:05:44.000 –> 00:05:50.000
And, you know, don’t be shocked if it doesn’t go the way you planned it the first couple of times you go out.

00:05:50.000 –> 00:05:55.000
But it’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re going around rabbit hunting, bringing the dog with you.

00:05:55.000 –> 00:05:57.000
It really does make it a little bit easier.

00:05:57.000 –> 00:06:07.000
Also, when you go bird hunting, you know, if you’re shooting and you get a bird, having the dog go and retrieve it, it really, you know, it really makes the hunt a lot more enjoyable for you.

00:06:07.000 –> 00:06:09.000
And the dog really enjoys it as well.

00:06:09.000 –> 00:06:14.000
I know myself, my other dog, he lived for going hunting.

00:06:14.000 –> 00:06:21.000
And, you know, I remember a buddy of mine, when we used to take the dog and he used to retrieve it all, it first made it really enjoyable for us.

00:06:21.000 –> 00:06:24.000
You know, he was a hunter having to shoot all the birds and then go and retrieve them and all that.

00:06:24.000 –> 00:06:26.000
It’s a lot of freaking work.

00:06:26.000 –> 00:06:28.000
So that’s what the dog is for.

00:06:28.000 –> 00:06:31.000
You can also, too, they also have places, folks, by the way, that you can rent dogs.

00:06:31.000 –> 00:06:32.000
I was pointing that out.

00:06:32.000 –> 00:06:35.000
A friend of mine who doesn’t have a lot of money, he wanted to get a hunting dog.

00:06:35.000 –> 00:06:37.000
And his wife and him are a little tight on money right now.

00:06:37.000 –> 00:06:38.000
They’re raising a couple of kids.

00:06:38.000 –> 00:06:43.000
So I said, well, you know, you have places you can rent a dog.

00:06:43.000 –> 00:06:47.000
So I was showing them a couple of places you can actually rent a dog.

00:06:47.000 –> 00:06:49.000
And it’s not expensive.

00:06:49.000 –> 00:06:52.000
They charge you, but they show you what to do.

00:06:52.000 –> 00:06:56.000
And that’s like $25, $30 for the day, or four hours, however long.

00:06:56.000 –> 00:06:58.000
Some places do it a little bit differently.

00:06:58.000 –> 00:07:02.000
But you can actually rent a dog that’s already trained and, you know, all that.

00:07:02.000 –> 00:07:06.000
It really depends on you and the person.

00:07:06.000 –> 00:07:14.000
I know up here in Pennsylvania this year is the first year you can actually use leased dogs to find deer.

00:07:14.000 –> 00:07:19.000
If you shoot a deer and you can’t find it, you can actually bring your leased dog out with you and help find it.

00:07:19.000 –> 00:07:21.000
There’s a lot of things going on right now with that.

00:07:21.000 –> 00:07:22.000
It’s pretty cool.

00:07:22.000 –> 00:07:24.000
Like I said, I always like beagles.

00:07:24.000 –> 00:07:27.000
I think they’re probably one of the best rabbit hunters out there.

00:07:27.000 –> 00:07:29.000
Like I said, I like to bring him out for bird season, too.

00:07:29.000 –> 00:07:33.000
But I want to start with rabbits first because they’re a little bit easier to train them.

00:07:33.000 –> 00:07:38.000
And then once you get used to doing those things and kind of get used to hunting and being out in the woods and all that,

00:07:38.000 –> 00:07:41.000
then we’ll go ahead and go from there.

00:07:41.000 –> 00:07:44.000
One of these two I’d like to point out, too, it’s a little bit cold this time of year up here.

00:07:44.000 –> 00:07:46.000
So we’re okay.

00:07:46.000 –> 00:07:50.000
But if you are going to bring your dog out into the woods, they’re going to be going through the brush and all that kind of stuff.

00:07:50.000 –> 00:07:55.000
I recommend getting either some kind of flea or tick prevention collar for them because,

00:07:55.000 –> 00:07:58.000
especially not so much this time of year when it’s cold,

00:07:58.000 –> 00:08:04.000
but when you’re going to go out for cottontails and stuff and birds in the spring, obviously that’s when you’re going to have all the ticks.

00:08:04.000 –> 00:08:07.000
And obviously you want to keep the dog as healthy as possible.

00:08:07.000 –> 00:08:09.000
So I recommend that.

00:08:09.000 –> 00:08:14.000
But like I said, he was — like I said, once I got him on the tracks, he was doing pretty good.

00:08:14.000 –> 00:08:17.000
Like I said, he didn’t really come across anything.

00:08:17.000 –> 00:08:19.000
But then again, I didn’t really see anything either.

00:08:19.000 –> 00:08:21.000
I only found a couple of tracks.

00:08:21.000 –> 00:08:25.000
I don’t know, maybe if this time of year, maybe the cottontails are picked pretty good or what happens.

00:08:25.000 –> 00:08:31.000
I mean, the small game is open from now until the end of February in Pennsylvania.

00:08:31.000 –> 00:08:34.000
So we’ll probably go out a couple more times for rabbits.

00:08:34.000 –> 00:08:36.000
We went out for about an hour or two. It’s a little bit cold today.

00:08:36.000 –> 00:08:41.000
So him and I went out for just a little bit just to kind of get him to wear him out a little bit so he gets a little exercise.

00:08:41.000 –> 00:08:44.000
Me too. I need a little exercise as well.

00:08:44.000 –> 00:08:46.000
So we don’t really get many days off.

00:08:46.000 –> 00:08:48.000
So today was a good day for that.

00:08:48.000 –> 00:08:50.000
So I went ahead and did all that.

00:08:50.000 –> 00:08:52.000
There’s a lot of small game right now.

00:08:52.000 –> 00:08:54.000
Right now I’m just doing the rabbit thing.

00:08:54.000 –> 00:08:58.000
There’s so many different ones we have coming up right now.

00:08:58.000 –> 00:09:00.000
Small game wise.

00:09:00.000 –> 00:09:05.000
I mean, it’s unbelievable how many different small game seasons there are.

00:09:05.000 –> 00:09:07.000
And it’s really up to you what you want to do.

00:09:07.000 –> 00:09:10.000
I mean, you can take the dog almost on any small game hunt.

00:09:10.000 –> 00:09:12.000
They’ll enjoy it.

00:09:12.000 –> 00:09:15.000
Like I said, I mostly do rabbits and birds.

00:09:15.000 –> 00:09:17.000
You know, pheasant.

00:09:17.000 –> 00:09:19.000
I like to do ducks.

00:09:19.000 –> 00:09:21.000
I like to do, like I said, rabbit.

00:09:21.000 –> 00:09:23.000
Those are my big ones.

00:09:23.000 –> 00:09:25.000
There’s a bunch of them as I go out.

00:09:25.000 –> 00:09:27.000
I can’t think of them all top of my head, but I do have the book.

00:09:27.000 –> 00:09:29.000
And I’ll make a point.

00:09:29.000 –> 00:09:34.000
Trapping season opens up too relatively soon here.

00:09:34.000 –> 00:09:36.000
I’m not sure I’m going to do trapping this year.

00:09:36.000 –> 00:09:38.000
Only because I’m not sure I’m going to have the time.

00:09:38.000 –> 00:09:40.000
Plus too, I’m trying to train Opie.

00:09:40.000 –> 00:09:42.000
So I may not do trapping this year.

00:09:42.000 –> 00:09:44.000
It really depends on my schedule.

00:09:44.000 –> 00:09:46.000
I will say one thing though, folks.

00:09:46.000 –> 00:09:48.000
Up in PA here, I’m not sure it is in your state.

00:09:48.000 –> 00:09:50.000
Just because you have a hunting license does not mean you have a fur taker’s license.

00:09:50.000 –> 00:09:57.000
So if you are interested in fur taking, folks, you may want to go ahead and check.

00:09:57.000 –> 00:10:02.000
Like I said, up here, a hunting license and a fur taker’s license are two different things.

00:10:02.000 –> 00:10:09.000
So make sure you go ahead, folks, and you check your state you’re in and check your listings and all that.

00:10:09.000 –> 00:10:12.000
And make sure some states you only need a hunting license.

00:10:12.000 –> 00:10:14.000
A general hunting license is a trap.

00:10:14.000 –> 00:10:21.000
But in PA, you actually do need a…you actually do need a trap’s license.

00:10:21.000 –> 00:10:23.000
So it’s a fur taker’s license.

00:10:23.000 –> 00:10:25.000
So it’s a little bit different up here.

00:10:25.000 –> 00:10:33.000
But try to make sure that you know your town, you know your area, you know your state.

00:10:33.000 –> 00:10:37.000
So you don’t want to end up with a fine or even lose your hunting license.

00:10:37.000 –> 00:10:41.000
So just something to think about there.

00:10:41.000 –> 00:10:45.000
Also, two folks, a couple things I did want to talk about.

00:10:45.000 –> 00:10:52.000
So for those of you that have been talking to me, tweeting, my Twitter, KB3YUA,

00:10:52.000 –> 00:10:54.000
you know, they’ll be talking and stuff like that.

00:10:54.000 –> 00:11:01.000
You know, we were talking about…I actually have been on…we’ve been talking about diet and all that.

00:11:01.000 –> 00:11:07.000
I’m actually right now on Weight Watchers via the app right now because I’ve got to lose some weight.

00:11:07.000 –> 00:11:11.000
I’m way overweight and actually having some issues with some blood pressure and stuff like that.

00:11:11.000 –> 00:11:14.000
But a couple people have pointed out Keto.

00:11:14.000 –> 00:11:17.000
And you know, a bunch of people had luck with that.

00:11:17.000 –> 00:11:19.000
Leo Laporte, he’s on the Tech Podcast Network.

00:11:19.000 –> 00:11:22.000
He’s on a Keto diet. He’s doing really good with that.

00:11:22.000 –> 00:11:25.000
A couple other handful of people that I know are on that.

00:11:25.000 –> 00:11:27.000
Keto, popular celebrities.

00:11:27.000 –> 00:11:29.000
Who else is on Keto?

00:11:29.000 –> 00:11:36.000
I think it’s on…I think even like maybe Paul Theraud and a couple other guys have been doing the Keto diet.

00:11:36.000 –> 00:11:42.000
And also too, I think a couple of the guys over at the Prepper Network and some of that are actually on that too.

00:11:42.000 –> 00:11:46.000
I’m actually…I actually…I tried Keto. It’s just not for me.

00:11:46.000 –> 00:11:52.000
I can’t really…The thing I liked about doing…the thing I like about doing Weight Watchers is I can actually go ahead and eat what I want.

00:11:52.000 –> 00:11:56.000
And as long as I keep track of the points on the app, I’m pretty good.

00:11:56.000 –> 00:12:02.000
I’m kind of…with my hectic schedule, it’s kind of tough for me to pre-plan meals on that.

00:12:02.000 –> 00:12:08.000
I try, but it’s hard. So with this, I can’t eat what I want as long as I stay under my point limit.

00:12:08.000 –> 00:12:10.000
So that’s something I wanted to point out as well.

00:12:10.000 –> 00:12:14.000
So you really got to make sure that if you’re going to go on a diet…

00:12:14.000 –> 00:12:16.000
And dieting is actually important guys.

00:12:16.000 –> 00:12:20.000
Kevin Smith, he’s one of the guys that’s on Weight Watchers right now.

00:12:20.000 –> 00:12:24.000
And so is…well I think there’s a couple other musicians that are on that.

00:12:24.000 –> 00:12:26.000
And diet’s really important.

00:12:26.000 –> 00:12:30.000
A lot of people…the reason why I went on…a couple buddies of mine…

00:12:30.000 –> 00:12:32.000
A buddy of mine recently had some heart issues.

00:12:32.000 –> 00:12:34.000
He’s a young guy like me.

00:12:34.000 –> 00:12:37.000
And almost…he’s a little older than me, but he’s not even…I think he just turned 40.

00:12:37.000 –> 00:12:39.000
He’s having heart problems.

00:12:39.000 –> 00:12:43.000
And another buddy of mine, you know, he’s in his 30s, had to have a step put in.

00:12:43.000 –> 00:12:47.000
You know, so it’s one of those things where, you know, I’m one of those…

00:12:47.000 –> 00:12:49.000
Like, I got to eat healthier.

00:12:49.000 –> 00:12:51.000
And I got to lose weight. You know, I got two kids and all that.

00:12:51.000 –> 00:12:53.000
And I want to be around for them as long as I can.

00:12:53.000 –> 00:12:58.000
So, you know, it doesn’t really…you know, the only thing is it does stink that you’re…

00:12:58.000 –> 00:13:02.000
You know, you got to…I mean, just think, watch it.

00:13:02.000 –> 00:13:05.000
You have to watch what you eat. I agree with you on that.

00:13:05.000 –> 00:13:11.000
But, you know, when you really look at it, if you are going to be doing some homesteading…

00:13:11.000 –> 00:13:16.000
And stuff like that, most of these programs, you can eat as much fruit and vegetables as you want.

00:13:16.000 –> 00:13:18.000
For the most part.

00:13:18.000 –> 00:13:21.000
So that might be something too, if you are looking at a diet.

00:13:21.000 –> 00:13:23.000
You might want to look at keto.

00:13:23.000 –> 00:13:28.000
If you are doing that, because a lot of people can do keto if they’re, you know, massive homesteaders.

00:13:28.000 –> 00:13:31.000
Because everything you are growing is going to be able to be eaten.

00:13:31.000 –> 00:13:37.000
But fruit, vegetables, plants, all that stuff is all going to be able to be eaten on keto.

00:13:37.000 –> 00:13:46.000
So if you are looking to possibly do some sort of diet, you may actually want to think about looking into the keto diet.

00:13:46.000 –> 00:13:53.000
Because you may actually, if you are homesteading, you may be able actually to use that.

00:13:53.000 –> 00:13:57.000
And it may work, you know, perfectly for you in your space.

00:13:57.000 –> 00:14:01.000
So that’s something, just something for you guys to think about going forward.

00:14:01.000 –> 00:14:05.000
Because I know a bunch of guys talked about different kinds of diets and all that stuff you can do.

00:14:05.000 –> 00:14:12.000
I know there’s all…you know, that’s the only thing I told my wife about diet plans is there’s just so many of them.

00:14:12.000 –> 00:14:17.000
And you don’t know which one’s good, which one’s bad, and some of them are racket, some of them aren’t.

00:14:17.000 –> 00:14:24.000
So, you know, it’s one of those things where you just got to find what one works for you, what fits your lifestyle, and go from there.

00:14:24.000 –> 00:14:28.000
But like I said, a lot of people, a lot of homesteaders are doing keto.

00:14:28.000 –> 00:14:30.000
And that’s easy working out really well.

00:14:30.000 –> 00:14:33.000
Some people I know are doing low carb diets.

00:14:33.000 –> 00:14:39.000
Those work out really well if you’re homesteading because obviously most people that are homesteading are eating fruit, vegetables, meats.

00:14:39.000 –> 00:14:42.000
They’re not eating much carbs, so that works out well for them.

00:14:42.000 –> 00:14:47.000
You know, a low carb diet is kind of tough if you’re Italian that likes pasta. You know what I’m trying to say?

00:14:47.000 –> 00:14:50.000
But like I said, I’ve been doing the Weight Watchers thing right now.

00:14:50.000 –> 00:14:52.000
And Kevin Smith is on that.

00:14:52.000 –> 00:14:55.000
And I was reading about him doing it.

00:14:55.000 –> 00:15:04.000
And he was saying that he eats potatoes and he eats corn and all this kind of stuff.

00:15:04.000 –> 00:15:06.000
And it really helped him tremendously lose a lot of weight.

00:15:06.000 –> 00:15:10.000
And he’s doing free foods because you’re allowed to eat apples and fruits and all that.

00:15:10.000 –> 00:15:11.000
And those are free foods.

00:15:11.000 –> 00:15:17.000
So it’s basically just eating anything that you can eat, any plant or any fruit.

00:15:17.000 –> 00:15:20.000
It’s basically the processed stuff you’ve got to stay away from.

00:15:20.000 –> 00:15:23.000
So even that is even, you know, that’s the way you actually should be eating.

00:15:23.000 –> 00:15:27.000
And that’s the way you’re going to eat if you’re a homesteader and all that kind of stuff.

00:15:27.000 –> 00:15:33.000
And you know, you don’t hear much about cholesterol and all that kind of stuff back with the older people.

00:15:33.000 –> 00:15:36.000
Because back then they ate real food.

00:15:36.000 –> 00:15:39.000
There wasn’t this much processing. There wasn’t prepackaged stuff.

00:15:39.000 –> 00:15:41.000
There wasn’t all this.

00:15:41.000 –> 00:15:46.000
Our grandparents, you know, they didn’t have cholesterol problems.

00:15:46.000 –> 00:15:48.000
Because why? They didn’t eat processed foods.

00:15:48.000 –> 00:15:51.000
You didn’t go out to eat as much back then.

00:15:51.000 –> 00:15:54.000
You were home at night to eat dinner.

00:15:54.000 –> 00:15:56.000
Somebody was home to cook your meals.

00:15:56.000 –> 00:15:58.000
You didn’t have both parents working.

00:15:58.000 –> 00:16:00.000
You had to throw something together real quick.

00:16:00.000 –> 00:16:06.000
All this stuff really does make a difference in our diets and how we eat and how we live.

00:16:06.000 –> 00:16:08.000
And a lot of people don’t realize that.

00:16:08.000 –> 00:16:12.000
And a lot of people say, “My grandparents never had cholesterol problems.”

00:16:12.000 –> 00:16:14.000
Yeah, because they ate right.

00:16:14.000 –> 00:16:16.000
That’s the difference, you know.

00:16:16.000 –> 00:16:18.000
And people don’t realize that.

00:16:18.000 –> 00:16:22.000
The older people didn’t have cholesterol because they weren’t, you know, both people didn’t have to work and all that.

00:16:22.000 –> 00:16:24.000
And it wasn’t like it is nowadays.

00:16:24.000 –> 00:16:26.000
I brought this up before in another podcast.

00:16:26.000 –> 00:16:37.000
But, you know, back in the day, you know, before the way things are now, you know, nowadays we work to support our households.

00:16:37.000 –> 00:16:42.000
Back then, okay, the household supported you.

00:16:42.000 –> 00:16:45.000
You know, you farm the land.

00:16:45.000 –> 00:16:48.000
The land that you own paid for itself.

00:16:48.000 –> 00:16:52.000
The, you know, all that, you know, that was the way it was back then.

00:16:52.000 –> 00:16:54.000
You know, now it’s the opposite direction.

00:16:54.000 –> 00:16:59.000
We work to support the house, where back then your house and your land supported you.

00:16:59.000 –> 00:17:03.000
You know, it’s totally different than it was years ago.

00:17:03.000 –> 00:17:06.000
Also true, you have a lot of people that have, both parents have to work now.

00:17:06.000 –> 00:17:12.000
With the economy and everything going crazy the way it is, you know, both parents have to work now.

00:17:12.000 –> 00:17:17.000
And we’ve started getting into this prepackaged, preprocessed, pre-stuffed food.

00:17:17.000 –> 00:17:21.000
And it’s become very unhealthy for everybody.

00:17:21.000 –> 00:17:24.000
You know, and it’s a big problem.

00:17:24.000 –> 00:17:31.000
And a lot of people now are having cholesterol issues and heart procedures and all that from eating crappy food.

00:17:31.000 –> 00:17:35.000
And fortunately, that’s the way our society has become.

00:17:35.000 –> 00:17:37.000
Everything’s quick and go.

00:17:37.000 –> 00:17:42.000
You know, for a prime example, McDonald’s didn’t plan on making America fat.

00:17:42.000 –> 00:17:47.000
It saw a problem and found a need and made a business because of it.

00:17:47.000 –> 00:17:48.000
It wasn’t their fault.

00:17:48.000 –> 00:17:53.000
And if you look at hamburgers and stuff of McDonald’s back in the day compared to what they are now,

00:17:53.000 –> 00:17:55.000
now it’s designed to maximize profit.

00:17:55.000 –> 00:18:03.000
Where back in the day it was there, you know, McDonald’s was really more concerned about quality control and stuff like that.

00:18:03.000 –> 00:18:05.000
So it’s a little bit different now.

00:18:05.000 –> 00:18:09.000
So that’s something I wanted to point out.

00:18:09.000 –> 00:18:12.000
Also, two folks, a couple things I want to talk about too.

00:18:12.000 –> 00:18:15.000
I don’t usually try to talk about politics that much.

00:18:15.000 –> 00:18:19.000
But if you’re watching the news and all, you see what’s going on.

00:18:19.000 –> 00:18:22.000
It’s been all over the internet, all over the television, all over that.

00:18:22.000 –> 00:18:26.000
Where Congress voted to, you know, impeach Trump.

00:18:26.000 –> 00:18:30.000
Now it’s going to go to the Senate, which is going to be majority Republican.

00:18:30.000 –> 00:18:35.000
And I just think this is becoming one big joke.

00:18:35.000 –> 00:18:38.000
The same thing the Republicans did to Clinton back in the 90s.

00:18:38.000 –> 00:18:41.000
Now the Democrats are doing it to the Republicans.

00:18:41.000 –> 00:18:47.000
It’s just unbelievable and it’s just so blown out of hand.

00:18:47.000 –> 00:18:50.000
It’s so blown out of proportion.

00:18:50.000 –> 00:18:56.000
Yeah, I don’t care if you’re what side of the fence you’re on, Democrat or Republican, that doesn’t matter to me.

00:18:56.000 –> 00:19:08.000
But, you know, it’s just, it’s so ridiculous in the sense that it’s, nothing is going to change.

00:19:08.000 –> 00:19:14.000
I mean, it’s not. He’s never going to get impeached. He’s never going to be taken into office. I doubt it very much so.

00:19:14.000 –> 00:19:22.000
The only reason why it worked, you know, Nixon resigned, you know, so all that.

00:19:22.000 –> 00:19:28.000
It’s not going to, you know, people are saying that they’re going to take him out of the White House in handcuffs and all that.

00:19:28.000 –> 00:19:35.000
It’s not going to happen. And if he for some reason would get impeached, the Vice President will pardon him.

00:19:35.000 –> 00:19:40.000
So it’s such a joke. It’s unbelievable.

00:19:40.000 –> 00:19:53.000
And, you know, it’s just becoming one of these things that it’s just, you know, now they’re going, now the Congress is mostly Democrat.

00:19:53.000 –> 00:20:00.000
Now it’s going to go to the Senate, which is mostly Republican, and they’re going to say no and this whole thing’s going to get dropped.

00:20:00.000 –> 00:20:07.000
I think, you know, it’s a lot of it is just trying to do a smear campaign. The Republicans try to do it to Clinton.

00:20:07.000 –> 00:20:13.000
They tried to do it before Clinton was president. They tried to do a massive smear campaign on Clinton before he was president.

00:20:13.000 –> 00:20:16.000
That didn’t work out for them.

00:20:16.000 –> 00:20:23.000
They tried to do it when he was president. They tried to impeach, get him impeached over the whole thing with Monica Lewinsky, which is another joke and a half.

00:20:23.000 –> 00:20:30.000
And, you know, it just got just so ridiculously out of hand.

00:20:30.000 –> 00:20:36.000
And, you know, I didn’t agree with it when the Republicans did it to the Democrats, you know, and Clinton.

00:20:36.000 –> 00:20:43.000
I don’t agree with what they’re doing with Trump. It’s basically just a big political jockeying game.

00:20:43.000 –> 00:20:52.000
It has nothing to do with us, the people. It has everything to do with them trying to win the election in 2020.

00:20:52.000 –> 00:21:06.000
It’s a political move. It has nothing to do with, it’s not going to, you know, it’s just, it’s not helping the American people.

00:21:06.000 –> 00:21:14.000
It’s basically, it’s keeping them from getting anything else done. It’s keeping them from the bigger issues.

00:21:14.000 –> 00:21:20.000
It’s keeping them from trying to pass any of his bills, trying to do anything that really, you know,

00:21:20.000 –> 00:21:27.000
it’s all a political game. It has nothing to do with us, the American people.

00:21:27.000 –> 00:21:34.000
It has everything to do with them carving the world out to make it a little bit better for them, trying to get themselves reelected,

00:21:34.000 –> 00:21:40.000
trying to get themselves in a position of higher power. That’s all politics, that’s all that politics down in Washington right now

00:21:40.000 –> 00:21:47.000
is just one big dog and pony show for the 2020 election. That’s all it is.

00:21:47.000 –> 00:21:54.000
It’s not, it’s nothing that’s going to change anything for the American public because the truth is, no matter what happens,

00:21:54.000 –> 00:21:59.000
if they get him out of office, Pence is going to take over right where he left off. It’s not going to change anything.

00:21:59.000 –> 00:22:04.000
And they’re going to try to smear him, which is not going to work because the people that follow him don’t care.

00:22:04.000 –> 00:22:09.000
They’re going to vote for him either way, no matter, even if he gets away with it, they say, “Oh, we speared him all over the news.”

00:22:09.000 –> 00:22:15.000
It’s a big deal. I mean, the old saying is any press is good press. So, and the people that are going to vote for him

00:22:15.000 –> 00:22:21.000
are going to vote for him no matter what. It’s not going to change a thing. It’s a big joke.

00:22:21.000 –> 00:22:29.000
And that’s my, I really feel that way. It’s just a big joke. So, it’s just a bunch of rich guys in Washington

00:22:29.000 –> 00:22:35.000
that make more than any of us will ever make, that make decisions that affect our lives, that affects the taxpayers,

00:22:35.000 –> 00:22:41.000
that they don’t care about us, they care about themselves. That’s just the way I feel.

00:22:41.000 –> 00:22:49.000
So, it’s just really one big joke. Like I said, I don’t talk politics very much, but it’s kind of getting annoying to see this where,

00:22:49.000 –> 00:22:54.000
I mean, it’s basically, it’s not about us, it’s about them, them trying to get into more positions of power,

00:22:54.000 –> 00:23:01.000
them trying to jockey for election, them trying to jockey for this, trying to do that.

00:23:01.000 –> 00:23:06.000
It’s all a bunch of rich guys that make more money than we do, better healthcare than we do,

00:23:06.000 –> 00:23:12.000
and all trying to improve their families, their power, their money, their situations.

00:23:12.000 –> 00:23:18.000
They’re all in some way, they’re all in any way liars and crooked and all that.

00:23:18.000 –> 00:23:23.000
I don’t trust a single politician. I don’t care who they are. I don’t trust any of that.

00:23:23.000 –> 00:23:29.000
I mean, I think, I mean, it’s all a game. They have to be elected leaders, and I think that’s great,

00:23:29.000 –> 00:23:36.000
but to a certain degree, they’re all in somebody’s pockets, and maybe just take somebody to a podcast

00:23:36.000 –> 00:23:42.000
and saying that out loud for everybody to hear that and understand that, because, I mean, that’s kind of what it is.

00:23:42.000 –> 00:23:46.000
I mean, and nothing’s going to change. I mean, it’s not. Nothing’s going to change.

00:23:46.000 –> 00:23:55.000
No matter what they do, nothing’s going to change. So, I mean, it’s one big joke, and it’s, like I said,

00:23:55.000 –> 00:24:00.000
it’s all in everybody’s, everybody’s in everybody’s pocket, everybody’s bought and paid for by somebody.

00:24:00.000 –> 00:24:05.000
They don’t care about the people. They care about themselves and their agendas passed and all that,

00:24:05.000 –> 00:24:08.000
because that’s what it’s about. It’s about positioning themselves for the next election.

00:24:08.000 –> 00:24:13.000
That’s what everything in Washington is about. They don’t understand what the American people go through.

00:24:13.000 –> 00:24:20.000
They don’t understand that. They just understand, you know, they don’t, that’s it. It’s all a big joke.

00:24:20.000 –> 00:24:25.000
So, I’m sorry to talk politics, folks, but I just had to get that off my chest for everybody to hear,

00:24:25.000 –> 00:24:32.000
because, you know, I think it is the, I think, you know, that’s my feelings on it.

00:24:32.000 –> 00:24:37.000
No matter what side of the fence you’re on, you and me all get up every day and go to work

00:24:37.000 –> 00:24:42.000
and go to the grind and all that, and they take our money and do whatever they want with it,

00:24:42.000 –> 00:24:49.000
not what we want them to do with it. So, but some of these folks, I would like to bring up

00:24:49.000 –> 00:24:56.000
just a couple of quick things, folks. I’m not trying things that I don’t want to,

00:24:56.000 –> 00:25:01.000
I’m not trying to, you know, get any more politics, but I just want to point something out.

00:25:01.000 –> 00:25:05.000
Somebody had sent me a message the other day. They know I’m a big bow hunter, archery hunter.

00:25:05.000 –> 00:25:11.000
They asked me what kind of bow I used. I actually have been using a PSE for hunting.

00:25:11.000 –> 00:25:15.000
It’s lighter. I found it a little bit easier to carry, some of that. I like it.

00:25:15.000 –> 00:25:19.000
So my versatile looks a little bit cooler. I’ve been using my Hoyt for competition

00:25:19.000 –> 00:25:23.000
when I was shooting competition bow. I have not done that in a while.

00:25:23.000 –> 00:25:29.000
I used to. I don’t right now. There’s a place up here called the Hunter’s Gallery.

00:25:29.000 –> 00:25:32.000
I actually used to shoot bow there every week. I was in a league.

00:25:32.000 –> 00:25:36.000
I have not been doing that this year only because I’ve got other things going on right now,

00:25:36.000 –> 00:25:46.000
but I mostly use a Hoyt for competition shooting and for hunting.

00:25:46.000 –> 00:25:51.000
Some of the archery stuff I was doing at the Hunter’s Gallery, I was using the PSE too

00:25:51.000 –> 00:25:55.000
because it was just lighter, easier, faster.

00:25:55.000 –> 00:26:09.000
I used mostly a PSE as an everyday user. I do use a Hoyt for competition shooting.

00:26:09.000 –> 00:26:12.000
Like I said, I have not done competition shooting in a while.

00:26:12.000 –> 00:26:20.000
I use the carbon fiber arrows. I have the aluminum arrows for the Hoyt.

00:26:20.000 –> 00:26:24.000
I don’t really use them. I like the carbon fiber ones personally.

00:26:24.000 –> 00:26:28.000
I find they’re lighter. They’re faster. I think it really depends what you want to do with it.

00:26:28.000 –> 00:26:34.000
By the way, those of you guys that like to go hunting, they do have the new thing now

00:26:34.000 –> 00:26:41.000
where you can put it on the end of the arrow. When you actually shoot and then it will hit.

00:26:41.000 –> 00:26:48.000
If you don’t hit anything, it will actually spark. Not spark, but turn an LED light on kind of thing.

00:26:48.000 –> 00:26:54.000
That’s where you can actually see what the heck you were, you know, you can find the arrow.

00:26:54.000 –> 00:27:00.000
I never really understood why they make arrows and stuff camouflage because, I don’t know,

00:27:00.000 –> 00:27:03.000
I just don’t, it makes it a lot harder to see in the woods.

00:27:03.000 –> 00:27:07.000
Same thing with people that walk around with the woods with a camouflage, you know,

00:27:07.000 –> 00:27:11.000
OtterBox on their cell phone. It just makes it harder when you drop it in the woods to find it.

00:27:11.000 –> 00:27:14.000
So I always pointed that out as well.

00:27:14.000 –> 00:27:20.000
So a couple people asked me that question. They asked me what I was using rifle wise.

00:27:20.000 –> 00:27:26.000
I haven’t really rifle hunted in a while. I will be when I go out bird hunting.

00:27:26.000 –> 00:27:32.000
But like I said, right now, I haven’t really rifle hunted in a while. I mostly archery hunt.

00:27:32.000 –> 00:27:39.000
Like I said, I do have a rifle, but I have not been out with it in quite a long time.

00:27:39.000 –> 00:27:41.000
I’m probably going to have to have a service and all that before I go out with it.

00:27:41.000 –> 00:27:45.000
But I do have a rifle for bird hunting. Like I said, I haven’t really gone bird hunting in quite a while.

00:27:45.000 –> 00:27:48.000
I’m actually way overdue for that.

00:27:48.000 –> 00:27:58.000
So, but yeah, like I said, that is, I will actually, that actually will get that service and oiled up and all that before I actually go out.

00:27:58.000 –> 00:28:00.000
Like I said, I haven’t really gone gun hunting in a while.

00:28:00.000 –> 00:28:06.000
Like I said, I will probably, you know, have all that service before I go out.

00:28:06.000 –> 00:28:12.000
And, you know, like I said, I haven’t really gone gun hunting in a while.

00:28:12.000 –> 00:28:15.000
So I’ve been doing a lot with archery just because I’ve been enjoying it a lot.

00:28:15.000 –> 00:28:19.000
I don’t get to go out as much as I’d like to. But when I do go out, I do like to do the archery stuff.

00:28:19.000 –> 00:28:21.000
So I’ve been doing the bow stuff a lot.

00:28:21.000 –> 00:28:29.000
So, somebody asked, somebody did send a tweet and asked me, I just want to go through my tweets here.

00:28:29.000 –> 00:28:33.000
Because you guys did send me some questions the last couple of weeks and I haven’t had a chance to answer them.

00:28:33.000 –> 00:28:36.000
Somebody asked what kind of food I’m feeding Lopey.

00:28:36.000 –> 00:28:42.000
I’ve been doing the blue food, you can find it at Wal-Mart.

00:28:42.000 –> 00:28:45.000
I’ve used that for most of my dogs.

00:28:45.000 –> 00:28:50.000
The reason why I’ve used that is because most of the dogs I’ve had that have been on that have usually been very healthy.

00:28:50.000 –> 00:28:53.000
So I’ve actually been using that right now.

00:28:53.000 –> 00:28:59.000
It’s not cheap, I will say that. It’s actually probably the most expensive food I’ve seen at Wal-Mart when I go.

00:28:59.000 –> 00:29:03.000
But like I said, I’ve been using the blue food. It does keep him…

00:29:03.000 –> 00:29:06.000
So far so good he’s having any problems with it or anything like that.

00:29:06.000 –> 00:29:09.000
But I’ve been using the blue food.

00:29:09.000 –> 00:29:13.000
And like I said, it’s pretty expensive stuff. It’s not cheap.

00:29:13.000 –> 00:29:19.000
But he likes it and for the most part I’ve had really good luck with it with all my other dogs.

00:29:19.000 –> 00:29:22.000
So I’ve been sticking to that.

00:29:22.000 –> 00:29:25.000
Like I said, it’s a blue bag.

00:29:25.000 –> 00:29:30.000
I think it’s Blue Mountain, but they call it blue. It says blue right on it.

00:29:30.000 –> 00:29:32.000
It’s a blue bag, you can’t miss it.

00:29:32.000 –> 00:29:37.000
Like I said, it’s not cheap, but I’ve used it for all my dogs and they’ve all been pretty healthy.

00:29:37.000 –> 00:29:42.000
So knock on wood, let’s hope this does the same for him.

00:29:42.000 –> 00:29:48.000
A couple of people asked me about Opie.

00:29:48.000 –> 00:29:51.000
A couple of questions I got about dogs. Let me see if I can find the one I had.

00:29:51.000 –> 00:29:54.000
I should have had these all written out already.

00:29:54.000 –> 00:29:57.000
Somebody asked me about the chip. I actually did have him chipped.

00:29:57.000 –> 00:30:00.000
I bought the lifetime subscription for the chip.

00:30:00.000 –> 00:30:03.000
I don’t know if you guys know that, but if you do have your dog chipped,

00:30:03.000 –> 00:30:09.000
you will have to buy a subscription to the company that actually provides the thing.

00:30:09.000 –> 00:30:14.000
So if somebody would actually go ahead and look for him.

00:30:14.000 –> 00:30:20.000
There actually is a chip in him.

00:30:20.000 –> 00:30:27.000
However, just because you have your dog chipped, doesn’t mean it’s always going to work.

00:30:27.000 –> 00:30:31.000
In the sense that you have to pay a subscription.

00:30:31.000 –> 00:30:35.000
They either have $25 a year or $70 or $80 for a lifetime.

00:30:35.000 –> 00:30:39.000
So I usually, depending on the dog and the age of the dog, obviously Opie is a puppy.

00:30:39.000 –> 00:30:41.000
So I got him for the lifetime.

00:30:41.000 –> 00:30:46.000
But what that actually is folks, is they chip him.

00:30:46.000 –> 00:30:50.000
What you have to do is activate the chip and then the subscription you pay.

00:30:50.000 –> 00:30:53.000
If somebody would catch him and would actually scan the chip,

00:30:53.000 –> 00:30:57.000
and this chip wasn’t registered, it would say call whatever.

00:30:57.000 –> 00:31:01.000
They would call you and say, “Hey, we think somebody found your dog,

00:31:01.000 –> 00:31:05.000
but the chip isn’t activated. You want to activate it and see maybe if this is your dog.”

00:31:05.000 –> 00:31:11.000
I know it’s not the greatest system in the world to do, but it is the next thing.

00:31:11.000 –> 00:31:18.000
I also have a dog tag on him and a collar on him to help in case somebody doesn’t have a chip reader.

00:31:18.000 –> 00:31:20.000
I don’t, it’s RFI and all that obviously.

00:31:20.000 –> 00:31:22.000
I do have a chip reader and all that.

00:31:22.000 –> 00:31:30.000
Plus I also have dog tags on him with my phone number, his name, our address, all that stuff.

00:31:30.000 –> 00:31:32.000
I wanted to point that out as well because it’s really important.

00:31:32.000 –> 00:31:37.000
A couple people that asked me about that, like I said, I do actually have them chipped and all that.

00:31:37.000 –> 00:31:43.000
In Pennsylvania when you do take dogs out in the woods, you do actually have to have the GPS collar on them.

00:31:43.000 –> 00:31:48.000
If they catch you with it, it’s actually a fine. Without it, it’s actually fine.

00:31:48.000 –> 00:31:50.000
I actually do have that. Like I said, I had them on a leash so I didn’t have that.

00:31:50.000 –> 00:31:53.000
If you have them on a leash, you don’t have to have that.

00:31:53.000 –> 00:31:59.000
I actually have it for my other dog. I actually kept it, but I have not used it yet.

00:31:59.000 –> 00:32:01.000
But I do have that as well.

00:32:01.000 –> 00:32:05.000
If you’re going to take your dog out in the woods, I would recommend definitely have them.

00:32:05.000 –> 00:32:10.000
I would like to have just a little more safety. I actually have his name on a collar.

00:32:10.000 –> 00:32:16.000
Then also too, like I said, I have a chip in him and also have the GPS thing on him as well when he’s out in the woods.

00:32:16.000 –> 00:32:20.000
I have three things to try to keep him from getting lost.

00:32:20.000 –> 00:32:27.000
If he does get lost, hopefully somebody will find him and he has all that info on him.

00:32:27.000 –> 00:32:30.000
Obviously if he loses his collar, he’s got the chip on him.

00:32:30.000 –> 00:32:38.000
So, as far as taking your dog out, yes, you do have to be extra careful with that kind of stuff.

00:32:38.000 –> 00:32:42.000
I am really careful with that. I do appreciate everybody’s concern with that.

00:32:42.000 –> 00:32:47.000
I talked about, there was a question on here, “Why don’t you train him for rabbits?”

00:32:47.000 –> 00:32:50.000
I actually read that and I already answered the question.

00:32:50.000 –> 00:32:56.000
Like I said, I mostly flee that the rabbits put and all that kind of stuff.

00:32:56.000 –> 00:33:00.000
But that was a question, somebody had a question, “How do you train him for rabbits?”

00:33:00.000 –> 00:33:02.000
I talked about the rabbits, putting them on the tracks and all that already.

00:33:02.000 –> 00:33:04.000
Somebody did ask that question on my Twitter.

00:33:04.000 –> 00:33:09.000
By the way folks, I love all the Twitter questions I’m getting. I really love it.

00:33:09.000 –> 00:33:22.000
Again, my Twitter, KB3YUA. I will absolutely, positively do my best to try to answer those questions when they come in or on the next show.

00:33:22.000 –> 00:33:26.000
If I can, I do apologize for having that show for a couple weeks.

00:33:26.000 –> 00:33:29.000
But like I said, I do love all the questions. I do appreciate that.

00:33:29.000 –> 00:33:35.000
If you have any questions at all, like I said, you can send me on my Twitter @KB3YUA, my ham radio call sign.

00:33:35.000 –> 00:33:38.000
We will eventually, somebody asked about doing a show on ham radio.

00:33:38.000 –> 00:33:41.000
Eventually I probably will go over some of that stuff.

00:33:41.000 –> 00:33:46.000
But right now, it will be a show, don’t worry about that. We’ll talk about it on some show.

00:33:46.000 –> 00:33:49.000
We haven’t done it right this second, so we will though.

00:33:49.000 –> 00:33:55.000
Like I said, I want to thank everybody for listening. Like I said, if we don’t have a show before then, I wish you a Merry Christmas.

00:33:55.000 –> 00:33:58.000
If not, maybe we’ll see you on the next episode.

00:33:58.000 –> 00:34:02.000
Thank you very much. We’ll talk to you either on the next episode.
