00:00:00.000 –> 00:00:06.000
Alright folks and welcome to another edition of the Survivalist podcast.
00:00:06.000 –> 00:00:11.000
As always folks you can catch all of our old episodes at survivalinfo.org
00:00:11.000 –> 00:00:20.000
and as well you can also check on all of our old shows at soundcloud.com/survivalistpodcast
00:00:20.000 –> 00:00:25.000
and all places where fine podcasts are available.
00:00:25.000 –> 00:00:28.000
Also folks if you could leave a like, leave a review,
00:00:28.000 –> 00:00:32.000
anything you could to help us out would be greatly appreciated.
00:00:32.000 –> 00:00:36.000
Also two folks wanted to talk about just the show notes for a minute.
00:00:36.000 –> 00:00:39.000
Those of you that have been asking to be able to help support the show,
00:00:39.000 –> 00:00:45.000
go ahead and into the show notes there’s a link for donations and a link to shop on Amazon.
00:00:45.000 –> 00:00:49.000
Shop on Amazon helps support the show and costs you nothing.
00:00:49.000 –> 00:00:54.000
But there’s also a donate button there if you want to donate cash.
00:00:54.000 –> 00:00:58.000
So I do appreciate all that and all support.
00:00:58.000 –> 00:01:04.000
So got some questions from last week’s show.
00:01:04.000 –> 00:01:06.000
We’ll talk about the questions here in a minute.
00:01:06.000 –> 00:01:08.000
I mean I don’t have a lot of questions but I do have a couple.
00:01:08.000 –> 00:01:11.000
But folks I want to talk about for a minute here.
00:01:11.000 –> 00:01:15.000
A lot of people have been talking about what they can do if I had any ideas.
00:01:15.000 –> 00:01:18.000
One of the questions they had was do I have any ideas?
00:01:18.000 –> 00:01:22.000
What would be a good thing to do to make money if they’re not working?
00:01:22.000 –> 00:01:24.000
So I’m going to ask them the questions somebody had.
00:01:24.000 –> 00:01:28.000
And I’ve been telling people this and I really do believe that the best thing you can do right now
00:01:28.000 –> 00:01:36.000
as far as a side business is, believe it or not, to get fabric, get the pattern and to make masks.
00:01:36.000 –> 00:01:42.000
My friend’s wife, just the other day, she paid like half of their rent just by selling masks
00:01:42.000 –> 00:01:44.000
on a table in their front porch.
00:01:44.000 –> 00:01:50.000
So I mean there are definitely ways to make money right now if you’re willing to put the time in.
00:01:50.000 –> 00:01:54.000
Maybe you’re not going to get paid what you’re worth but at least they’ll help you get some money together
00:01:54.000 –> 00:02:01.000
so you can go ahead and kind of, you know, maybe pay the rent or help pay some bills, stuff like that.
00:02:01.000 –> 00:02:07.000
So masks are a big thing and you don’t have to necessarily go out to places like a Joann Fabrics
00:02:07.000 –> 00:02:12.000
or a place like that. You go ahead and get material.
00:02:12.000 –> 00:02:19.000
You can make it out of any old clothes. Anything with a pattern on it seems to be pretty catchy.
00:02:19.000 –> 00:02:25.000
Anything really with anything that’s kind of popular, if you have like baby clothes that have Disney characters on it,
00:02:25.000 –> 00:02:31.000
if you can cut that up and make a mask out of it. Now you do want to follow, there is on the mask,
00:02:31.000 –> 00:02:37.000
I’ll actually show you, there actually is a way you’re supposed to make the mask so it actually does follow CDC guidelines.
00:02:37.000 –> 00:02:43.000
So you want to check that out as well. While any mask is really good, you want to make them where they have multiple layers
00:02:43.000 –> 00:02:48.000
to help protect some people following CDC guidelines. But I do want to point that out as well.
00:02:48.000 –> 00:02:54.000
If you’re going to mask, sometimes it isn’t always going to protect you. You need to follow the CDC guidelines for the masks.
00:02:54.000 –> 00:02:59.000
That’s very important. And like I said, you can find all that right on the internet. Just Google it.
00:02:59.000 –> 00:03:04.000
There actually is a pattern to make masks, makes them properly. And like I said, you can make them out of material.
00:03:04.000 –> 00:03:09.000
You can make them out of anything you really have laying around to kind of give them a good look, anything that’s catchy.
00:03:09.000 –> 00:03:13.000
Like I said, if you have old, you know, if you have old clothes and as long as it’s in good shape,
00:03:13.000 –> 00:03:18.000
that’s kind of catchy with things on it that people might want, that might be something good to try.
00:03:18.000 –> 00:03:23.000
That’ll probably be pretty popular and might sell pretty well. I mean, the best thing you can do is make it out of something
00:03:23.000 –> 00:03:30.000
that’s catchy, like, like, like it’s a Disney or Star Wars or Marvel. I mean, you have an old, I mean,
00:03:30.000 –> 00:03:34.000
I know it sounds kind of crazy, but that’s, you know, that’s the stuff that’s selling right now.
00:03:34.000 –> 00:03:40.000
And you don’t want something pretty as you can sell on places like McCarey, Facebook, Etsy, places like that,
00:03:40.000 –> 00:03:45.000
you can make yourself five, six, seven bucks. So like I said, that, that’s been something I’m telling people that they could do that
00:03:45.000 –> 00:03:50.000
really can help them make a little extra money that might help them. The mask market is a big market right now,
00:03:50.000 –> 00:03:56.000
where a lot of people that don’t have money are making money making masks. So I strongly recommend if you need something,
00:03:56.000 –> 00:04:01.000
need some extra money or need to, you know, make some money, side money, go in and make a mask.
00:04:01.000 –> 00:04:06.000
I know it sounds a little crazy. They’re not a lot of work and you can actually make yourself five, six bucks a shot.
00:04:06.000 –> 00:04:13.000
And like I said, my friend, he actually, they paid half his rent just by his wife making masks. So again, folks, go ahead.
00:04:13.000 –> 00:04:20.000
And that might be a business, you know, also to those of you guys that are out there that have trades that aren’t working, you know,
00:04:20.000 –> 00:04:27.000
guys that are, you know, I hate to say it, but if you need to make money, you know, you can work, you know, do some side jobs,
00:04:27.000 –> 00:04:33.000
stuff like that. I know, well, it’s not maybe the safest thing to do. You know, if you need to pay the bills, you got to pay the bills, right?
00:04:33.000 –> 00:04:38.000
You got to put food on the table, so you do what you got to do. But also too, there are other businesses,
00:04:38.000 –> 00:04:44.000
well, anything really online that you can do is really going to be helpful. Now, obviously some people don’t have money for certain things,
00:04:44.000 –> 00:04:49.000
masks are kind of a necessity. People still for that kind of stuff. But if you’re going to try to sell Yvonne or Beachbody,
00:04:49.000 –> 00:04:54.000
those kinds of businesses really right now that, I mean, people are scrounging about.
00:04:54.000 –> 00:05:01.000
But the fitness industry may do well because people can go to the gym, people that have money and maybe want to go to the gym but can’t.
00:05:01.000 –> 00:05:07.000
That might be something. I’m not really very familiar with the fitness industry, but that might be something you could try as well.
00:05:07.000 –> 00:05:12.000
Like I said, selling stuff like Yvonne, makeup, stuff like that, those things are, I mean, they might, you might make some money with that stuff.
00:05:12.000 –> 00:05:20.000
I don’t discourage anybody from that, but that might be a tough sell right now only because of, you know, everything going on.
00:05:20.000 –> 00:05:30.000
But like I said, there are a lot of different things. Anything online is going to be safe for you to do and really a way for you to really make money
00:05:30.000 –> 00:05:40.000
and stay safe. That’s the main goal right now is to make money and stay safe. You know, it’s a tough thing, but sometimes, you know, you do what you got to do.
00:05:40.000 –> 00:05:48.000
And unfortunately, some people have been taking side jobs and stuff like that. And they’re in environments where they’re around different people.
00:05:48.000 –> 00:05:53.000
Maybe that’s not the best thing to do. We’re all supposed to be distancing ourselves. But unfortunately, sometimes you got to make money.
00:05:53.000 –> 00:05:59.000
You got to do what you got to do. As long as you’re wearing a mask, wearing your gloves and you’re staying safe, social distancing, hopefully, you know,
00:05:59.000 –> 00:06:03.000
you’ll be okay. And, you know, you know, it’s a tough thing.
00:06:03.000 –> 00:06:10.000
I will say that we do have somebody who’s sick in the hospital right now. And I do want to point out, folks, that while people,
00:06:10.000 –> 00:06:17.000
while people generally do do their jobs and do them well, there are people that do take advantage of the situation.
00:06:17.000 –> 00:06:22.000
You have to really, you have somebody that’s in the hospital right now or in a nursing home.
00:06:22.000 –> 00:06:29.000
You really should be checking in on them via phone as much as you can. Fortunately, places where people get medical care,
00:06:29.000 –> 00:06:33.000
obviously, there’s people overworked, overstressed, and sometimes things got to fall through the cracks.
00:06:33.000 –> 00:06:41.000
I’m not saying it happens with everybody, but, you know, right now there’s nobody kind of looking over anybody’s shoulder to keep anybody honest.
00:06:41.000 –> 00:06:47.000
And, you know, you can have people that are fortunately getting suffered from neglect and some of that because their families can’t see them.
00:06:47.000 –> 00:06:54.000
And, you know, people are taking advantage of that. I’m not saying it’s everybody, but, you know, if you do have people,
00:06:54.000 –> 00:06:59.000
elderly, that are in nursing homes and they do require people’s care, I would try to check in with them.
00:06:59.000 –> 00:07:03.000
I’m not saying that everybody will do it. I’m not saying I’ve had any experience with it,
00:07:03.000 –> 00:07:10.000
but I did read an article in the paper this morning talking about how some of the elderly are being neglected because the families aren’t there showing up.
00:07:10.000 –> 00:07:16.000
Some of these nursing homes are becoming, like, neglect homes. And I’m not saying that that definitely is happening to everybody.
00:07:16.000 –> 00:07:22.000
I hope it’s not. But if you have any elderly or anybody in a hospital or nursing home,
00:07:22.000 –> 00:07:29.000
I would check up on them just to make sure they’re getting the level of care that they’re entitled to getting.
00:07:29.000 –> 00:07:34.000
So I just wanted to point that out as well, folks, for any of our elderly high risk.
00:07:34.000 –> 00:07:40.000
Obviously, we can’t go see them. So we’re trying to keep, you know, protect them the best we can.
00:07:40.000 –> 00:07:46.000
And fortunately, sometimes not seeing some people, fortunately, while it’s good for keep them healthy,
00:07:46.000 –> 00:07:50.000
it also sometimes can result in people not getting the level of care they deserve.
00:07:50.000 –> 00:07:57.000
So if you have any elderly, you know, please check up on them as they deserve their care,
00:07:57.000 –> 00:08:01.000
not only their safety, but their proper care they deserve.
00:08:01.000 –> 00:08:06.000
So a couple of things I wanted to get into. Like I said, I did get a couple of questions.
00:08:06.000 –> 00:08:13.000
And somebody had pointed out to me, I’ve been talking a lot about fishing,
00:08:13.000 –> 00:08:16.000
because of this fishing season here in the Pennsylvania mountains.
00:08:16.000 –> 00:08:20.000
But somebody had asked me a question the other day about bow fishing.
00:08:20.000 –> 00:08:26.000
And I have never actually done that. I actually went ahead and looked it up on YouTube.
00:08:26.000 –> 00:08:30.000
And there’s a couple of good channels on YouTube of bow fishing.
00:08:30.000 –> 00:08:34.000
Those of you that don’t know what bow fishing is,
00:08:34.000 –> 00:08:39.000
it’s when you actually take a bow and where your counterweight would be on the front of your bow.
00:08:39.000 –> 00:08:42.000
Instead of having that there, you put a reel on it.
00:08:42.000 –> 00:08:50.000
And you shoot the fish or whatever with the bow, and then you reel them in.
00:08:50.000 –> 00:08:55.000
So it’s like bow hunting with pretty much like a string on the end of the bow where you reel it in.
00:08:55.000 –> 00:08:58.000
It’d pretty much be like you shooting a deer and then reeling them on in.
00:08:58.000 –> 00:09:02.000
So, you know, I actually watched some really good videos on YouTube.
00:09:02.000 –> 00:09:06.000
I was actually going to go through that whole rabbit hole with this.
00:09:06.000 –> 00:09:09.000
Earlier in the week when somebody had sent me that question,
00:09:09.000 –> 00:09:11.000
I had said I had never gone bow fishing.
00:09:11.000 –> 00:09:17.000
And now, thanks to this person, it’s going to be on my list of things to do.
00:09:17.000 –> 00:09:22.000
Hopefully maybe this summer or maybe next summer if we go on a trip.
00:09:22.000 –> 00:09:24.000
And this whole thing is over.
00:09:24.000 –> 00:09:26.000
But yeah, that actually is on my list.
00:09:26.000 –> 00:09:29.000
I’ve never actually done it. I’ve never actually even seen it.
00:09:29.000 –> 00:09:35.000
So then I actually went on outdoortv.com, which is a wonderful outdoor.
00:09:35.000 –> 00:09:37.000
It’s all free outdoor stuff.
00:09:37.000 –> 00:09:43.000
And they actually have a whole bow fishing competition that goes on down south.
00:09:43.000 –> 00:09:46.000
And it’s interesting. You have to be on a boat to do it.
00:09:46.000 –> 00:09:47.000
You really can’t do it from the shore.
00:09:47.000 –> 00:09:53.000
But what they actually do is they go into swamp areas or areas where the water is a little on the shallower side.
00:09:53.000 –> 00:10:00.000
And they actually go around. It’s more like a river stream kind of slow moving swamp kind of thing.
00:10:00.000 –> 00:10:04.000
But you go through and if you see them in the water you aim and shoot with the bow.
00:10:04.000 –> 00:10:06.000
And then you reel them on in.
00:10:06.000 –> 00:10:09.000
And like I said, I watched this.
00:10:09.000 –> 00:10:13.000
And then I was watching this. Like I said, on outdoor TV there’s actually a whole contest with this.
00:10:13.000 –> 00:10:15.000
And I was watching this.
00:10:15.000 –> 00:10:17.000
And I didn’t realize how intense this is.
00:10:17.000 –> 00:10:19.000
It really makes fishing a lot more…
00:10:19.000 –> 00:10:23.000
Fishing is always fun but it makes it a lot more intense.
00:10:23.000 –> 00:10:25.000
And definitely gives you a lot of action to watch.
00:10:25.000 –> 00:10:28.000
So like I said, I was watching that the other day.
00:10:28.000 –> 00:10:33.000
I’m like, “Wow, this is really intense watching this bow fishing stuff.”
00:10:33.000 –> 00:10:35.000
So I went down the whole rabbit hole.
00:10:35.000 –> 00:10:37.000
There’s tons of videos online if you want to look it up.
00:10:37.000 –> 00:10:39.000
It actually is very interesting. Very intense.
00:10:39.000 –> 00:10:42.000
And it looks like an incredible amount of fun.
00:10:42.000 –> 00:10:45.000
So somebody asked if I went bow fishing. I have not.
00:10:45.000 –> 00:10:49.000
That is now on my list of things to do.
00:10:49.000 –> 00:10:52.000
So thank you very much for that question.
00:10:52.000 –> 00:10:54.000
And hopefully, like I said, hopefully I will go bow fishing.
00:10:54.000 –> 00:10:56.000
I will try to take some video of it when I do go.
00:10:56.000 –> 00:10:58.000
And it should be a lot of fun.
00:10:58.000 –> 00:11:01.000
And now I’m definitely something I definitely want to do.
00:11:01.000 –> 00:11:04.000
I hope… I’m actually hoping… I don’t think I can do it up here.
00:11:04.000 –> 00:11:07.000
I mean, we do have some swamps up here but not really.
00:11:07.000 –> 00:11:09.000
It’s something I’d probably do it on South to do.
00:11:09.000 –> 00:11:12.000
And if I actually do ever get a chance to do it…
00:11:12.000 –> 00:11:16.000
Like I said, I hope so. I really looked forward to it.
00:11:16.000 –> 00:11:19.000
Somebody had talked about too about fishing alligator gar.
00:11:19.000 –> 00:11:21.000
I’ve never actually done that.
00:11:21.000 –> 00:11:26.000
This really wasn’t a question but it was something that somebody had pointed out about hunting alligator gar.
00:11:26.000 –> 00:11:28.000
I actually have never done that before.
00:11:28.000 –> 00:11:32.000
But what I will point out is from what I was reading,
00:11:32.000 –> 00:11:37.000
and again, I’m not an expert with this so don’t take my advice. Look it up.
00:11:37.000 –> 00:11:40.000
But one of the things I had read about and my wife had even said too
00:11:40.000 –> 00:11:44.000
is that I guess alligator gar is one of those things you can take as many of them as you want.
00:11:44.000 –> 00:11:48.000
Like in Pennsylvania, coyote is one of those things that we’re overrun with.
00:11:48.000 –> 00:11:52.000
So you can take coyote any day, seven days a week.
00:11:52.000 –> 00:11:57.000
And one of the things I didn’t realize was looking at alligator gar,
00:11:57.000 –> 00:12:02.000
you actually… they’re actually one of those species where they actually want people to fish for them.
00:12:02.000 –> 00:12:05.000
And because there are so many of them.
00:12:05.000 –> 00:12:10.000
And while I was looking that up, I kind of fell back over into this bow fishing thing again.
00:12:10.000 –> 00:12:14.000
Because apparently bow fishing is one of the ways that you hunt alligator gar.
00:12:14.000 –> 00:12:19.000
So it kind of was funny because it kind of went over, kind of fell over into this other category again.
00:12:19.000 –> 00:12:27.000
So like I said, I didn’t realize alligator gar is one of those things you could actually take as many of them as you want.
00:12:27.000 –> 00:12:29.000
From what I’m reading and what I saw on YouTube.
00:12:29.000 –> 00:12:33.000
But apparently the only way you hunt alligator gar is bow fishing.
00:12:33.000 –> 00:12:37.000
So like I said, I went down this whole rabbit hole with this the other day.
00:12:37.000 –> 00:12:39.000
And I’m kind of stuck on this now.
00:12:39.000 –> 00:12:43.000
I’ve been watching, actually this morning I was sitting here at my coffee and I was watching a few of the Morty videos.
00:12:43.000 –> 00:12:48.000
So those of you that ever hunt when alligator, if any of you have ever gone bow hunting,
00:12:48.000 –> 00:12:53.000
or ever done anything with alligator gar, you can send me any information.
00:12:53.000 –> 00:12:56.000
Like I said, my Twitter, KB3YUA.
00:12:56.000 –> 00:13:01.000
And go on there or go to the website and you can link up with me that way or Instagram.
00:13:01.000 –> 00:13:06.000
And go, like I said, send me the information about this or send me any stuff you have about it.
00:13:06.000 –> 00:13:13.000
Because I’m actually very interested in it now and would actually look forward to hopefully doing it at some point down the future.
00:13:13.000 –> 00:13:17.000
So like I said, send that information to me. I’d be interested to talk about it.
00:13:17.000 –> 00:13:22.000
Another thing too is somebody asked me a question talking about alligator eggs.
00:13:22.000 –> 00:13:26.000
And the question was, have you ever eaten alligator eggs?
00:13:26.000 –> 00:13:28.000
And I have.
00:13:28.000 –> 00:13:35.000
For those of you that have never, and it’s not so much even alligator, reptile eggs, they’re not like chicken eggs for any of you that have ever not had them.
00:13:35.000 –> 00:13:39.000
They’re soft. They’re like a soft egg.
00:13:39.000 –> 00:13:45.000
And like I said, you can actually, you know, almost a shell, I mean you can probably squeeze it out almost.
00:13:45.000 –> 00:13:50.000
It’s like into your mouth or sucking into your mouth. It’s very soft.
00:13:50.000 –> 00:13:54.000
It’s not like an egg where you crack it and eat it. It’s very soft.
00:13:54.000 –> 00:13:58.000
And a lot of times you actually will boil those, boil the egg sac.
00:13:58.000 –> 00:14:08.000
You actually get an alligator or something like that with actual, like an egg sac.
00:14:08.000 –> 00:14:11.000
You can actually boil the whole egg sac and then you have a bunch of eggs.
00:14:11.000 –> 00:14:15.000
And like I said, they’re not like chicken eggs. They’re very soft. You just suck them out.
00:14:15.000 –> 00:14:20.000
They’re not very, you don’t eat the, I mean I don’t think you eat the, I didn’t.
00:14:20.000 –> 00:14:25.000
But you don’t eat the white, you just eat the inside. It’s totally different than a chicken egg.
00:14:25.000 –> 00:14:28.000
They’re very soft. Any reptile egg is totally different. They’re very soft.
00:14:28.000 –> 00:14:34.000
They’re very, you know, when you think of a chicken egg it’s hard or ducking and you crack it and all that.
00:14:34.000 –> 00:14:42.000
Where this is like a soft, really smooth kind of egg you can more or less rip open or something like that.
00:14:42.000 –> 00:14:46.000
It’s not like a hard shell. It’s a soft shell kind of thing.
00:14:46.000 –> 00:14:48.000
And so that was something that somebody asked me about.
00:14:48.000 –> 00:14:53.000
I have never actually done that, but, I’ve actually eaten alligator eggs but I’ve never actually alligator hunted.
00:14:53.000 –> 00:14:55.000
But that was something somebody pointed out too.
00:14:55.000 –> 00:15:01.000
One of the things too, I went online and if you’re actually a, if you’re a wrestling fan or you’re not a wrestling fan.
00:15:01.000 –> 00:15:06.000
If you go up to, if you look up Shawn Michaels McMillan River Adventure.
00:15:06.000 –> 00:15:12.000
There actually is a couple videos of them actually hunting alligators. How they actually do it.
00:15:12.000 –> 00:15:17.000
And it’s actually quite interesting. For those of you that have ever, I don’t know if anybody’s ever hunted alligator.
00:15:17.000 –> 00:15:20.000
I have not and that’s not really something on my bucket list to do.
00:15:20.000 –> 00:15:24.000
But if you actually want to see how they actually hunt alligator.
00:15:24.000 –> 00:15:28.000
McMillan River Adventure, if you Google it, Paul Michaels YouTube.
00:15:28.000 –> 00:15:30.000
You know McMillan River Adventure.
00:15:30.000 –> 00:15:34.000
And there’s actually a bunch of videos on them actually going down the river hunting alligator.
00:15:34.000 –> 00:15:37.000
And it actually shows you how they actually do it.
00:15:37.000 –> 00:15:42.000
And it’s really interesting and it’s really brutal too to watch.
00:15:42.000 –> 00:15:45.000
But like I said it’s McMillan River Adventure.
00:15:45.000 –> 00:15:49.000
It’s with Shawn Michaels. Like I said you can actually see, like say wrestling fan or not.
00:15:49.000 –> 00:15:50.000
It’s a hunting show.
00:15:50.000 –> 00:15:55.000
And it actually shows them alligator hunting and it was really interesting.
00:15:55.000 –> 00:16:00.000
Like I said I have never actually done it. I don’t really have any urge to do that.
00:16:00.000 –> 00:16:05.000
But it is brutal to watch. It is, seems very intense.
00:16:05.000 –> 00:16:09.000
And like, so like I said go ahead and check that out if you’re interested in alligator hunting.
00:16:09.000 –> 00:16:10.000
How it actually happens.
00:16:10.000 –> 00:16:17.000
It actually is, it’s interesting to watch. And it’s not like kind of hunting you would, you think of.
00:16:17.000 –> 00:16:20.000
It actually is, it looks pretty intense. It looks pretty dangerous.
00:16:20.000 –> 00:16:22.000
Not something necessarily I want to do.
00:16:22.000 –> 00:16:25.000
But if those of you that are interested in it, it is up there and it is interesting.
00:16:25.000 –> 00:16:28.000
And there’s a couple other ones on there too.
00:16:28.000 –> 00:16:34.000
As well. And like I said, one thing I know too about watching some of these videos is alligator hunting.
00:16:34.000 –> 00:16:36.000
And alligator trapping are two different things.
00:16:36.000 –> 00:16:38.000
Crocodile hunting, crocodile hunt trapping.
00:16:38.000 –> 00:16:42.000
All that’s all, so it’s a whole different kind of thing down there.
00:16:42.000 –> 00:16:43.000
A whole different kind of hunting.
00:16:43.000 –> 00:16:46.000
And it’s really interesting to watch.
00:16:46.000 –> 00:16:51.000
And like I said I didn’t actually realize what was involved with it until you actually watch it.
00:16:51.000 –> 00:16:52.000
So if you’re interested check it out.
00:16:52.000 –> 00:16:55.000
Like I said they have it down in Florida and stuff like that.
00:16:55.000 –> 00:16:56.000
Like I said down south.
00:16:56.000 –> 00:17:00.000
And like I said there’s whole videos down like I said on YouTube with it.
00:17:00.000 –> 00:17:04.000
McMillan River Adventure had the best ones that I saw with the best camera quality.
00:17:04.000 –> 00:17:06.000
It wasn’t just some guy doing it on his phone.
00:17:06.000 –> 00:17:08.000
But it was interesting.
00:17:08.000 –> 00:17:10.000
And like crocodile hunting and alligator hunting.
00:17:10.000 –> 00:17:13.000
They’re different things and there’s totally different stuff.
00:17:13.000 –> 00:17:16.000
So interesting there.
00:17:16.000 –> 00:17:18.000
I wanted to point that out to everybody.
00:17:18.000 –> 00:17:22.000
Also G-Fo’s I wanted to kind of talk about some other things as well.
00:17:22.000 –> 00:17:27.000
Somebody had, I had talked about distressed properties on the last episode.
00:17:27.000 –> 00:17:30.000
And I did get some response from people asking about distressed properties.
00:17:30.000 –> 00:17:32.000
How do you find them and stuff like that.
00:17:32.000 –> 00:17:40.000
You know distressed properties is one of those things where right now they’re being shut down with COVID.
00:17:40.000 –> 00:17:41.000
It’s hard to try to do this.
00:17:41.000 –> 00:17:44.000
You kind of wait until the real estate industry kind of reopens up again.
00:17:44.000 –> 00:17:53.000
But generally the way you do it is you’ll find a property that you really want to do something with.
00:17:53.000 –> 00:17:55.000
That you think you can do something with.
00:17:55.000 –> 00:17:57.000
And then you have to go either to the courthouse or online.
00:17:57.000 –> 00:18:03.000
And like I said get the tax bill and then mail out the, mail a letter out to these people.
00:18:03.000 –> 00:18:06.000
And say you’re interested and you hope they call you back.
00:18:06.000 –> 00:18:07.000
Sometimes they will, sometimes they won’t.
00:18:07.000 –> 00:18:08.000
It’s a crap shoot pretty much.
00:18:08.000 –> 00:18:13.000
But some people have pointed out some things like that and asked me if I could help them find distressed properties.
00:18:13.000 –> 00:18:15.000
I really don’t have the time for that.
00:18:15.000 –> 00:18:17.000
And without being familiar with your area.
00:18:17.000 –> 00:18:19.000
That’s something you really have to be familiar with the area.
00:18:19.000 –> 00:18:25.000
And while I appreciate everybody with the world of confidence saying if they can help them find a distressed property.
00:18:25.000 –> 00:18:27.000
You really got to know the area.
00:18:27.000 –> 00:18:28.000
You really got to be able to drive around.
00:18:28.000 –> 00:18:30.000
Because it’s not something that’s going to be advertised on a real estate site.
00:18:30.000 –> 00:18:33.000
You have to pretty much find the people on your own.
00:18:33.000 –> 00:18:34.000
Find the property.
00:18:34.000 –> 00:18:35.000
Do the homework.
00:18:35.000 –> 00:18:38.000
Because I have no way of knowing what’s distressed and what’s not.
00:18:38.000 –> 00:18:41.000
It’s something, it’s really the only thing you can do to really know the area.
00:18:41.000 –> 00:18:44.000
You know I know people that have questions.
00:18:44.000 –> 00:18:45.000
Could I help them with this or that.
00:18:45.000 –> 00:18:47.000
And you know I’m not really in the business of doing that.
00:18:47.000 –> 00:18:51.000
But if you are interested in a distressed property.
00:18:51.000 –> 00:18:55.000
It’s as easy as finding the property, finding the address.
00:18:55.000 –> 00:18:57.000
Get the tax records, mail a letter.
00:18:57.000 –> 00:18:58.000
And when they reach out to you.
00:18:58.000 –> 00:19:00.000
After you reach out to you and you’re interested in doing it.
00:19:00.000 –> 00:19:04.000
You can reach out to a real estate attorney or real estate agent.
00:19:04.000 –> 00:19:07.000
And they can start the contract and all that.
00:19:07.000 –> 00:19:09.000
So it’s a little bit.
00:19:09.000 –> 00:19:15.000
Like I said it’s not so much hard work as it is just finding the address and reaching out to the people.
00:19:15.000 –> 00:19:17.000
So you really got to know the area.
00:19:17.000 –> 00:19:18.000
You got to know the property.
00:19:18.000 –> 00:19:26.000
It’s a really different thing than actually you know going online and searching for houses that are for sale.
00:19:26.000 –> 00:19:29.000
You actually have to really know what’s around you and all that.
00:19:29.000 –> 00:19:32.000
Because generally with a distressed property it’s not going to be listed.
00:19:32.000 –> 00:19:34.000
The people don’t have it listed with a realtor.
00:19:34.000 –> 00:19:35.000
You’re finding it.
00:19:35.000 –> 00:19:37.000
They’re still paying the tax on it.
00:19:37.000 –> 00:19:38.000
They’re not even interested in selling.
00:19:38.000 –> 00:19:41.000
You’re reaching out saying hey would you like to sell.
00:19:41.000 –> 00:19:42.000
That’s the key with a distressed property.
00:19:42.000 –> 00:19:45.000
It’s property that people really can’t list with a realtor.
00:19:45.000 –> 00:19:46.000
Because it’s such in bad shape.
00:19:46.000 –> 00:19:49.000
Because they’ve neglected it all those years.
00:19:49.000 –> 00:19:51.000
And that’s kind of how you you know.
00:19:51.000 –> 00:19:55.000
So if you I mean and it’s easiest if you drive by that drive by a house that hasn’t been touched in 10 years.
00:19:55.000 –> 00:19:59.000
Driving to work every day and you say hey my wife and I might be interested in that.
00:19:59.000 –> 00:20:00.000
You know you reach out to her.
00:20:00.000 –> 00:20:02.000
They may not be interested in selling it.
00:20:02.000 –> 00:20:08.000
Generally distressed properties can’t be listed with a realtor because they are again distressed.
00:20:08.000 –> 00:20:12.000
So a lot of times people really can’t reach out to realtor.
00:20:12.000 –> 00:20:14.000
Because realtor won’t take them because they’re in bad shape.
00:20:14.000 –> 00:20:17.000
So like I said the key is like I said finding the property.
00:20:17.000 –> 00:20:19.000
You got to really know the area and stuff like that.
00:20:19.000 –> 00:20:21.000
So it’s one of those things where you’ll know.
00:20:21.000 –> 00:20:24.000
And if people do have questions about how to find the address that I can help with.
00:20:24.000 –> 00:20:27.000
But you know it’s as simple as finding the property.
00:20:27.000 –> 00:20:30.000
You know not saying hey you know I haven’t seen anybody at that house.
00:20:30.000 –> 00:20:31.000
It’s fallen down.
00:20:31.000 –> 00:20:34.000
You know I’d be interested in working on it.
00:20:34.000 –> 00:20:39.000
You know mailing and you know a letter and saying to the people saying hey I’m interested in your property.
00:20:39.000 –> 00:20:40.000
I know it’s not for sale.
00:20:40.000 –> 00:20:42.000
But it looks like you know it needs some work.
00:20:42.000 –> 00:20:46.000
And I’d be interested in buying it and then coming up with a fair price.
00:20:46.000 –> 00:20:48.000
So like I said it’s really that simple.
00:20:48.000 –> 00:20:52.000
So like I said it’s one of those things where you’re going to have to know your area.
00:20:52.000 –> 00:20:54.000
I really can’t help you with that.
00:20:54.000 –> 00:20:57.000
But I do appreciate everybody asking me and all that kind of stuff.
00:20:57.000 –> 00:21:01.000
And like I said if you need help finding an address or something I could help with that.
00:21:01.000 –> 00:21:04.000
But like I said you really it’s really easy to do it on your own.
00:21:04.000 –> 00:21:07.000
So a lot of people some people had some questions about that.
00:21:07.000 –> 00:21:11.000
So I just wanted to go ahead and kind of reach out with that information for you.
00:21:11.000 –> 00:21:14.000
Another thing folks I want to talk about too.
00:21:14.000 –> 00:21:16.000
Talking about everything going on.
00:21:16.000 –> 00:21:22.000
Some people like I said have asked about how they could how they could actually you know make money while this whole thing is going on.
00:21:22.000 –> 00:21:30.000
One of the things folks you could do is and I found this out too is if you can sometimes it’s not always it’s not about sometimes making money.
00:21:30.000 –> 00:21:32.000
It’s trying to cut expenses.
00:21:32.000 –> 00:21:37.000
And if you like sometimes people just can’t make money while they’re you know they’re not able to.
00:21:37.000 –> 00:21:44.000
But one thing you can do is you can try to cut expenses and one thing you want to some things are very hard to cut.
00:21:44.000 –> 00:21:46.000
Obviously there’s certain things you can’t cut.
00:21:46.000 –> 00:21:53.000
But you know one of the things you may want to look at is obviously if you can maybe cut down your cable bill.
00:21:53.000 –> 00:21:58.000
See you know if you’re in a tight spot with money see if you can you know cut you know cut back on your cable bill.
00:21:58.000 –> 00:22:03.000
And you know your electric bill try to conserve electric if you can.
00:22:03.000 –> 00:22:10.000
You know unplug things you don’t need stuff like that you know things like that you know little money saving tips you can.
00:22:10.000 –> 00:22:16.000
Maybe try you know if you have the time try to look on the Internet for sales for stuff when you go shopping.
00:22:16.000 –> 00:22:19.000
You know see if there’s coupons for stuff you generally would buy at the grocery store.
00:22:19.000 –> 00:22:26.000
You know things things like that could really help cut if you cut a few you know sometimes it’s not necessarily cutting big chunks of money from your budget.
00:22:26.000 –> 00:22:31.000
Or it’s cutting the little things you can cut sometimes can actually really really help.
00:22:31.000 –> 00:22:40.000
Instead of maybe going to the grocery store if you have a local farmers market that might be something you could try as well to save money on your produce and your milk and eggs and things of that nature.
00:22:40.000 –> 00:22:53.000
So like it’s not always big things it’s little things sometimes because of you know I mean you can’t cut your insurance on your you know on your on your house because if you have a mortgage you have to have coverage on your house.
00:22:53.000 –> 00:23:00.000
You know for the most part if you have to keep now down maybe not as much because of the summer’s starting to roll in but you can’t really cut the heat too much.
00:23:00.000 –> 00:23:09.000
But there are certainly you can cut you can cut back on electric by turning things and unplugging things you don’t need you could you know you know cut back on your cable.
00:23:09.000 –> 00:23:14.000
You know I mean you could cut if your car is paid off you could kind of cut back on your car insurance.
00:23:14.000 –> 00:23:20.000
I don’t necessarily recommend that but something you do but that’s something else you could do folks if you if you really need to save money.
00:23:20.000 –> 00:23:25.000
Evaluate your car insurance or your house insurance and see if you can get a better rate.
00:23:25.000 –> 00:23:30.000
See if there is a company that will give you a better rate on car insurance a better rate on home insurance.
00:23:30.000 –> 00:23:35.000
I mean I know myself I just recently changed car insurance just because I was getting sick.
00:23:35.000 –> 00:23:41.000
I’m not going to say the company because I don’t want to call anybody out but I was thinking I was paying a lot of money for the for just three vehicles.
00:23:41.000 –> 00:23:43.000
And I reached out to another company and they gave us a much better rate.
00:23:43.000 –> 00:23:48.000
So that’s something you can try and if you’re not working you have the time to make these phone calls.
00:23:48.000 –> 00:23:56.000
So that’s something I want to point out too is that maybe it’s not always so much making money to coverage but it’s maybe reevaluating your expenses.
00:23:56.000 –> 00:24:06.000
To see what you can actually save going forward and I’m not saying that you know not knocking anybody but I’m just saying you know that might be.
00:24:06.000 –> 00:24:15.000
If you can’t make money or you’re not making extra money maybe evaluating your current financial situation might actually might help.
00:24:15.000 –> 00:24:27.000
And the other thing too folks is I want to point out too a couple people have messaged a couple people I know have talked to me about this but one of the things I would say too is there are certain things you don’t want to get behind on your mortgage.
00:24:27.000 –> 00:24:40.000
You know your insurance payments those things you know but your credit cards or medical bills if you and everybody knows the situation I’m sure you guys anybody who’s called to make a payment on anything has heard.
00:24:40.000 –> 00:24:49.000
What you can do is you can reach out to cut like your credit card companies and tell me I have a tough time and a lot of them are saying OK well we’re going to postpone this month’s payment.
00:24:49.000 –> 00:24:59.000
And you know I mean they’re you know so there there are things you can do with everything going on right now that you can try to postpone payments and like I said you don’t want to postpone insurance.
00:24:59.000 –> 00:25:06.000
Stuff like that because God forbid things happen and you don’t have insurance so I wouldn’t suppose imposing your insurance or your mortgage if you can avoid it.
00:25:06.000 –> 00:25:15.000
But like you can go ahead and call up your credit card company and say hey I don’t have the money this month you know having tough times I’m not working because everything going on covered.
00:25:15.000 –> 00:25:22.000
Could you postpone this payment or something and many of them will your electric or the electric company will do it.
00:25:22.000 –> 00:25:30.000
So in the beginning and maybe if you don’t have the money a key would be to try to cut back on electric and then call and postpone your electric payment.
00:25:30.000 –> 00:25:38.000
So now when you do get back to work you less so that might be you know there are a lot of different things you can do to try to make your situation better.
00:25:38.000 –> 00:25:41.000
You know your subscription services.
00:25:41.000 –> 00:25:50.000
I hate to say this but you know stuff like you know maybe HBO is a necessity right now maybe Netflix or Hulu is a necessity right now.
00:25:50.000 –> 00:25:58.000
You know your music services maybe aren’t a necessity right now I’m not and I’m not you know I’m not knocking anybody I know we’re all looking for a team right now we’re all sitting home.
00:25:58.000 –> 00:26:09.000
But I’m just saying you need to look at what’s what’s a necessity versus a need versus a want and I talked about this call another pod has before and if you need to cut some expenses.
00:26:09.000 –> 00:26:14.000
Maybe that 9 10 bucks a month for a subscription service maybe you don’t need that right now.
00:26:14.000 –> 00:26:23.000
Maybe you can postpone paying Dropbox or one of the or for you know Netflix or Hulu or HBO or Spotify or Apple music.
00:26:23.000 –> 00:26:35.000
Maybe you know maybe you can cut back on those things and save that nine bucks a month 10 bucks a month that maybe you can put put elsewhere so that you know that there are things you can really do try to reevaluate your financial expenses.
00:26:35.000 –> 00:26:41.000
You know maybe look at your credit cards and say OK well I’m paying you know 12 you know paying 20 percent interest.
00:26:41.000 –> 00:26:46.000
You know maybe there’s a credit card here I can get for you know seven or eight percent interest.
00:26:46.000 –> 00:26:51.000
You know there are things you can do like that that you know can help cut back.
00:26:51.000 –> 00:26:56.000
And like I said the thing going on COVID right now the mall all these places are very willing to work with you.
00:26:56.000 –> 00:27:07.000
They know what’s going on in the world they see what’s going on in the world and they’ll they’ll help you and like I said the key is to cut expenses and then reevaluate and then reevaluate your expenses.
00:27:07.000 –> 00:27:17.000
And all that if you can’t make extra money or maybe make that extra money and also evaluate your expenses and maybe the two will even out which would be great.
00:27:17.000 –> 00:27:24.000
So I just think is that I just want to go ahead and point these things out so that you know I want people to you know to really get over this hump.
00:27:24.000 –> 00:27:32.000
It’s tough time you know it’s very difficult time for everybody right now whether you have money or not but I think you know it’s important to say OK.
00:27:32.000 –> 00:27:42.000
You know prime example too is and I’m not knocking anybody but you know I have a lot of friends of mine that have seen it sometimes like well prime example is I have a friend of mine and she’s a nice person.
00:27:42.000 –> 00:27:44.000
She’s a neighbor.
00:27:44.000 –> 00:27:55.000
You know every time you turn around they’re always going to Europe and she’s just you know how we just right now with the songs not working I wish we had money and like well did you play over you really have our Europe trip plan like what can you get that money back.
00:27:55.000 –> 00:28:02.000
What do we want to do that this whole thing we’d like to go right now you need that money so see if you can get a refund.
00:28:02.000 –> 00:28:09.000
You know little things like that sometimes people just not thinking what’s important right now.
00:28:09.000 –> 00:28:23.000
You know spending spending a lot of money if your spouse is not working and is filing for an appointment a little things like that sometimes if you just kind of think the next step can really make a difference in your planning.
00:28:23.000 –> 00:28:43.000
You know prepping or whatever and prepping and I’ve said this before folks prepping and survivalism isn’t just what if the world comes to an end it’s preparing your finances preparing your future it’s preparing your your home preparing for little things you know maybe not natural huge catastrophes but preparing.
00:28:43.000 –> 00:28:54.000
What do I do if I don’t have electric one day what if I don’t have you know a little stuff like that I’ve said to me that preparing isn’t just isn’t just what if the world comes to an end what does the zombie apocalypse happen or the aliens come.
00:28:54.000 –> 00:28:58.000
It’s what do I do if I lose electric for four days.
00:28:58.000 –> 00:29:01.000
What do I do if I lose my job.
00:29:01.000 –> 00:29:04.000
What if I do. Those are things you can prepare for.
00:29:04.000 –> 00:29:13.000
And I hate to say it I think at times are more realistic than some of the stuff we see where people are preparing for the doomsday.
00:29:13.000 –> 00:29:17.000
Well I do think it is you know important to prepare for all that kind of stuff.
00:29:17.000 –> 00:29:24.000
I hate to say it I think sometimes losing your job is something that’s a little more could happen rather than the aliens coming down.
00:29:24.000 –> 00:29:40.000
I’m not saying can happen. And I’m not I’m not a scientist I’m not saying that it can happen but the realism is is there’s more chance of you losing your job than there is of you know the zombie apocalypse coming tomorrow.
00:29:40.000 –> 00:29:47.000
You know we get up you know the day it just you know it’s just I’m not saying it can happen but I’m just saying it’s.
00:29:47.000 –> 00:29:50.000
Yeah there’s more of a chance of happening.
00:29:50.000 –> 00:29:55.000
But you know that’s a big part of survivalism and preparing as well.
00:29:55.000 –> 00:30:00.000
I’d also to like I said want to point out what’s about finances and all that kind of stuff.
00:30:00.000 –> 00:30:03.000
If you do have a business like I said the loan forgiveness.
00:30:03.000 –> 00:30:07.000
I like to point that out you can apply for that small business loan.
00:30:07.000 –> 00:30:10.000
The paychecks forgiveness is available.
00:30:10.000 –> 00:30:12.000
Stimulus checks are going out.
00:30:12.000 –> 00:30:14.000
Tax returns are going to come back.
00:30:14.000 –> 00:30:19.000
So there is things you can do by the way folks to kind of help the situation as you go forward.
00:30:19.000 –> 00:30:24.000
And I know it’s hard and typical sometimes but those are things we have to do right now.
00:30:24.000 –> 00:30:25.000
And in tough times.
00:30:25.000 –> 00:30:32.000
Also to folks like I said there’s a lot of cutting expenses go my wife and I have actually done some kind of knock on wood.
00:30:32.000 –> 00:30:34.000
We’re both working. Thank God.
00:30:34.000 –> 00:30:40.000
But some things we’ve done switch to generic diapers for the baby to save a few dollars.
00:30:40.000 –> 00:30:45.000
Generic wipes stuff like that just little cost cutting things you can do.
00:30:45.000 –> 00:30:50.000
Buying generic fruit snack buying a Walmart brand instead of the name brand.
00:30:50.000 –> 00:30:56.000
You know little things like that buying a generic cereal rather than buying from other places.
00:30:56.000 –> 00:30:59.000
Little things like that could really save you a couple of bucks.
00:30:59.000 –> 00:31:02.000
And like I said you know one thing I’ve noticed myself from kind of expenses.
00:31:02.000 –> 00:31:08.000
I can always say four or five six hundred dollars but I can see five dollars here ten dollars there eight dollars there nine dollars.
00:31:08.000 –> 00:31:11.000
And also that adds up to a couple hundred a month.
00:31:11.000 –> 00:31:18.000
So you know those are the things too sometimes it’s not the big things it’s the little things you can do that add up to a big thing.
00:31:18.000 –> 00:31:22.000
Like I said folks I want to thank everybody for listening.
00:31:22.000 –> 00:31:23.000
Stay safe.
00:31:23.000 –> 00:31:26.000
You know stay healthy.
00:31:26.000 –> 00:31:29.000
And we will see you on the next show.
00:31:29.000 –> 00:31:30.000
Catch you on down the road.
